Dr. Sysyn holds a Ph.D. in philosophy and is the director of the Peter Jacyk Center for Ukrainian Historical Research at the Canadian Institute for Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada.
On September 1, 1999, Prof. Sysyn gave a lecture at the LTA on "The Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Diaspora: History and Prospects." In his report Prof. Sysyn presented objective and comprehensive information on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the dawn of the Ukrainian immigration to the U.S. and Canada to the present.
